Assuming you have the various T-bars out of the car, an experiment is in order. Use a c-clamp on one end and with a piece of rope, suspend the T-bar vertically from the garage ceiling. Then tap it on the other end with a wrench and listen to the ringing sound. The higher the frequency, the harder the steel.
BTW there is also a discussion about T-bars on the old Dry Dock.

Hey Bill I have one set that ding ding, (277/78) another set that goes ding dong (274/75) and a third set going dong dong (278/79). LOL So much for EE terminology.
Anyway, now that I have three sets in all the different numbers we discussed, It seems to me the 274/75 and the 278/79's sound the same, just thinner in diameter.
Given that they sound the same and vibrate almost the same, the 274's a little less than the 279's, it is possible they are made of the same steel, just a different diameter. So the conclusion, at least to me, is the 278/79's are the best choice and the 274's are the second choice.
As a recap, the 274's were used in station wagons and 383 cars. Since 440 wasn't mentioned, then it's probably the same for them. And the 278/79's are used in taxi cabs and Cop Cars.
Next will be to install them and drive it. The driving part will be down the road several months though
Phew! I'll bet ststcherbob will have his migrains stop now. LOL [ Edited Fri Apr 14 2006, 08:42PM ]

Yeah that's what I thought too. I thought I said that, in a round about way.
Just as a point of Reference, the 71 Furys, 318 and 360 have the 274/75's standard. I thought that odd they they went from the 278/79 to the 274. Maybe they were trying to soften the ride?
I want to thank you Bill for your help and I think we did a good job clearing all this up for future ref.
Enjoy the Holiday
