I recently picked up a neglected '67 Fury III 2-door. I would have passed her up, but for one thing....
440!
The car has a "SPECIAL ORDER" fender tag mounted adjacent to the standard fender tag. It has a 440/727 and 3.90 gears (near as I can tell).
I got the 440 running, and _MAN_ does she run great. Put water in it and it all ran out on my foot, though. Two freeze plugs rusted through and a crack between the second and third plug on the driver's side. Clearly, the plugs rusted in place and couldn't pop when needed, then when it finally did blow they still didn't done so as it sat empty they rusted more. I pulled the motor and installed new plugs. the second plug had been replaced. This tells me that the car was driven after it froze. That's good news. There's also no rust stain under the crack. That's the second piece of good news. I'm going to put the 440 back in this weekend and see how she does. **fingers crossed** With any luck, I won't have to tear the whole thing down and have the crack welded until some time next year when I can find another motor to keep the Fury on the road during the repair.
I wonder... How many 440/727/3.90:1 Fury III might have been made in '67? How rare is this car? I don't plan to sell it, but what is it worth? The trim is all intact in the trunk so I think it will be able to go back to stock, but if it's not terribly valuable, I may do some custom paint and leave the trim off. Any input there would be appreciated.

!welcome ...to the dock.
Neat car you have there...maybe post a pic of the fender tag so we can verify the options on the car. But a 440 powered fury is pretty neat none the less!
Yeah. That was why I just couldn't pass it up. My other car is an H-code '68 Barracuda Formula S fastback. I think it's one of about 350 fastback Formula S cars with the 383/727 combo that year.
I guess I just have a knack for stumbling upon the rare gems. <span class='smallblacktext'>[ Edited Wed Nov 04 2009, 12:40PM ]</span>
None of the pics I tried to take of the fender tags worked. I've put the best one in my photobucket (below). I'll try to take a better one tonight and maybe hunt for the build sheet.
Wow. Great info, guys. Yes. In the underhood pics you can see where the AC lines used to go through the firewall. That's all long gone. The whole setup is gone.
Here's what I can see on the tag. The top row has 5 under q, 9 under x.
The second row has 10 under AB and 9 under D 1 under both S and X
Row 3 has 4 under A (of AX), M1R under TRM, WW1 under PNT.

Well q5 states these are "police options" so it could be one of many options...it doesn't break it down so I think the most likely would be a 65 amp alternator OR HD shocks. and x9..?
The others are as follows....
A1 is a 26" rad, B0 is ?, D9 is power disc brakes with manditory 15" rims, S1 is A/C, and X1 is tinted glass all way round.
The next line is....
A(4)X is a 3.23 open rear gear, M1R is M=Medium trim line, 1= Bench seat cloth and vinyl, R=Red interior. The WW1 is the white paint.
PM23 is the car line adn body style, so p=plymouth, M=medium grade, 23=2dr Hardtop. 81=440/4bbl-350hp, single exhaust, 5=727 auto, 995 is the tire code...I have no idea how to decode that one. 329 is the scheduled production date of March 29, 1967...a wednesday. And the final number, 87345 is the shipping order number.
