Planning on using a donor '71 T & C for a 440 to replace the 360 in my '74 Monaco. Will it drop right in? Is there a different K member used for the big block cars? What sort of surprises/headaches await me?

I believe the motor mounts changed around 73. They went from the biscuit style, 66-72? to the spool style, 73 and later. So you will need to source out proper 73 and later style spool mounts from a big block car.
I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm sure someone will chime in with the facts.
C bodies do not have a removable K- member like the other Mopars do, they use an entire sub frame, so if the mounts don't line up it's time to do some cutting and welding. [ Edited Tue Mar 16 2010, 01:34PM ]

switching to BB will mean: shift linkage probably won't fit kickdown needs to come from the donor rad from the donor (assuming it fits the 74) You'll just have to test the donor's driveshaft to see if it's the right length, may need a different sized rear u joint. Being a T&C I would guess it's too long, and your sb one will be too long as well. We've got a pile of shafts once you get to the point of being able to take a measurement. Where in Chicago? I'm in the NW burbs.
I just don't remember if the sub frames/motor mount locations changed a lot from the '71 to '74 model years or not (hence my previous post about cutting/welding).

Thanks guys, especially for the heads-up on the engine mounts. Will definitely check out Schumacher. Furious70-- I'm in the SW 'burbs, Orland actually... I was thinking I might have trouble with the driveshaft. From what I understand, I'll need to use the 727 from the donor, not because the internals are any different, but only because the bolt pattern on the bellhousing is. As for everything else, I figured there'd likely be a great many little things that I'd need from here or there... which is why I got the donor car instead of just looking for a block. I have a soft spot for wagons anyway, so I don't like the idea of raping it for parts, but the guy was gonna part it out anyway. It's a 1 owner car from an estate sale in CA. Maybe if I'm motivated enough I'll put the 360 from the Monaco back in the wagon and sell it when I'm done. Anyway, keep letting me know what to expect, I'm still in the planning stages.

To be honest, I dunno exactly what condition the body is in. I just bought it off Ebay, and it's being shipped to me at present. All I've seen of it are the pics from the auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260560126737&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT It was quite obviously going to be raided and junked if it didn't sell, and I placed the lone bid on the car. Even with shipping costs, I figure I got a decent deal for a complete 440 w/ tranny, pulleys, brackets, etc. and hopefully just about whatever else I'd need to do the transplant. Doggone it though if my conscience wouldn't still bother me if that wagon shows up looking like it could be saved. That's why I was thinking maybe it could get my Monaco's 360 or a junkyard 318 or something when I'm done if it'll help me sleep at night. We'll see.
