Prior to the early 70's cars were styled for men, however it soon became apparent that wives and GF's were beginning to influence the sale and in many cases had the final say. According to a 2012 Forbes report, women now buy 52% of all cars and influence 85% of all purchases. I can remember my Dad arriving home with a brand new car and saying to my Mother - "Guess what I bought!". If I tried that now ... well lets not go there!!
About the mid eighties I was down in the tropics and at an annual car show in Red Deer, Alberta. In those days the show was held at the regional Mopar warehouse. Even though the upholstery intent is/was not exactly the same as the Plymouth interior mid-year sales thingie, I saw my first, and probably only mod-top and interior on a yellow 1968(?) Barracuda. It was just wild. Hard to believe that a manufacturer would build something like that. I wonder what ever happened to that car.
