Got a call from my brother last night and he's selling me his well optioned and well maintained 1999 Chrysler Concorde LXI with a 3.2 V6 quite a bit sooner than I thought he would. This car has had all of its service done and a ton of new wear item parts that would have fallen under the maintenance schedule. My brother did all the work so I know its done right.

I'm giving him my '89 LeBaron Coupe as part of the deal for him to give to his son as a work car. The LeBaron is getting seriously rusty and while I'll miss it, I'm quite looking forward to driving a bigger more comfortable car that gets the same fuel economy my LeBaron gets with twice the horse power and much more interior room etc.

My brother is in a band that's doing well and he wanted something to haul his guitars and amps in so the replacement vehicle is a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. He's fully aware that it's really a Matrix. Saved a ton of money by having wear Pontiac emblems. He looked at PT Cruisers but didn't like how tight the engine compartment was. If he drives them, he fixes them. His sole Mopar is his 2003 Ram 4x4.

I needed a new daily driver, so this fits my budget and leaves me enough to keep on working on the VIP and the St. Regis.

Bought my wife an 02 Chrysler Concorde LXi a couple years ago...she loves it!! Ours has the 3.5L V6, same motor they used in the 300M's. Goes like stink when you mash it down, you'd almost think it had a V8 under the hood it pulls so hard.

She doesn't get very good mileage with it though, she only works 5 minutes from the house so it never gets up to temperature. But when we use it on the Hwy the mileage is amazing!

I never owned or liked small cars regardless of marque.
I am a devoted Mopar RWD fan.
You can imagine how long I waited for a new Mopar RWD.
Some of my Mopar buddies actually held out during the FWD years and kept driving old RWD Mopars until the new LX platforms came out.
Others put up with the GM or Phord full sized RWD choices.

My Dippy has been a loyal source of transportation for years--and still is my daily driver.

I bought my 300C Hemi back in May--FINALLY!
I love it and very happy to drive it--when the wife lets me!! She says its her car!!

Nothing wrong with the K cars at all as far as I'm concerned. I would have happily soldiered on in my LeBaron coupe had it not been for the rust. I've been driving it for about 12 years but it seems it rusts faster than I can patch it. My brother is pretty handy with a mig welder so he might try patching all of the inner and outer rocker rust the passenger side has and beef up the trunk floor. The LeBaron has a ton of new and rebuilt parts so it runs good and oil consumption is at an acceptable level for its age and miles.

But it seemed to me that for a daily driver and for my 36 mile round trip work commute it was time for something newer with no rust. If my nephew does take the LeBaron it's pretty much a drive around town go to work car for him.

I got the LeBaron because I couldn't find a suitable RWD Mopar at the time I was looking to replace my 1980 Cordoba. I had been keeping my St. Regis off winter roads so I needed something to drive in the salting season. The little J-body LeBaron got the job and served me pretty well all those years. Central Kentucky especially Lexington over reacts to the possiblity of snow and salts the roads in a way that would have done the Romans salting Carthage proud.

I live about 19 miles from work so I'm looking forward to the highway mileage in the Concorde. My brother only lives a couple of miles from work so his mileage wasn't as good as it was when he took it out on the interstate.

I think I've done the whole range. Had the midsize LeBaron in 78, then a 83 E-class (Stretched K car)- both great cars I wish I still had. Then I had a couple of Intrepids- sister cars to the Concorde. One was the sports model with the 3.5 engine and was a blast to drive, the other had the 2.7 engine which I really had to work to get everything I could out of it, and it still got good mileage too- both got around 27/28 mpg. But both of them ended up blowing head gaskets. I LOVE my new 300 with the 3.5- wouldn't have minded the Hemi, if the car had had it, but it didn't and I don't mind, because, as you said, I was surprised by how much power it has.

Even though I drove my LeBaron for years, I was never without a full size 318 powered RWD Mopar because I've had the St. Regis since 1995. I bought it from my dad so I'd have something to drive when I discovered an enormous portion of the driver's side floor board in my '80 Cordoba was rusted out to the point my seat rocked back and forth when I pulled up to a light. I had a patch cut out of an '81 Cordoba to fix that.

I drove the St. Regis today to work. It was quite a pleasure as always. I know the R bodies aren't considered the coolest, but it's a good solid car. Some very minor styling tweaks would have gone a long way and full frame windows on the doors....I probably won't do it, but I've eyeballed a couple of times putting a '79 Dodge Magnum fascia on the front of the St. Regis. It looks like it would bolt right on and match up but the car would easily look better with just a different design for the grille. Peeling off the dessicated vinyl top did wonders for its looks too. Once I get the body work done and it's all one colour it'll look good again.

Ah, yes the RWD lean years....I soldiered on with B Bodies (78 Cordoba) M, J Bodies (82, 83, 86, 88, 89 (still own it) 5th Aves and 81 Cordobas) and R bodies (2x 79 NY, 3x 79 Newports, 80 Newport, 81 NY)....eventually turned to FWD offerings whenteh RWD cars dried up (85 Aries Wagon, 90 Imperial, 92 NY 5th Ave.) All were great cars and eventually succumbed to rot caused by salt on winter roads...(I remember when the leaf springs popped through the trunk floor on my 78 Cordoba).

The daily driver:

When I need a car to sacrifice to the salt gods, I probably get a Neon or something else on the cheap.
